Our Deepest Black
Can you remember the last time you felt the can't-see-my-hand-in-front-of-my-face kind of darkness? Last year, a couple of our staff went spelunking with one of our camp group's. When they came back, they told us about the cave guide stopping at a "large" open space to have everyone huddle together (when climbing through tunnels in caves, "large" doesn't really fit the bill, you know?! eep. I might be claustrophobic!)
The guide had everyone turn their head lamps off to experience what it's like to not have any light. They all turned them off and sat there in the pitch black, stone tunnel walls surrounding them (help, they're closing in!). They experienced complete and heavy darkness.
In walking through this lenten season, my heart is reacquainting with the sacrifice of my Savior. Tending to my heart this way is also a practice in confrontation. The Light of the World always brings light to the darkened tunnels of our hearts, but the exposure is with purpose. The Light stretches in until we no longer allow any iniquity to have dominion over us, until we find redemption from the oppression, until our footsteps are established in His Word. Like a headlamp switched on, the unfolding of His words gives light. (truth)
If you want, use this simple Practice Sheet to get your heart opening more to the light of Jesus. Let's both allow Him to expose our deepest black that we might have a hope worth sharing.
