The Other Side of the World | Part 1
Our family got the insane privilege of traveling to the other side of the world recently. Our daughter is living there and we hadn’t seen her in a year and knew we had one more year to go before she would come home! So we saved, sold some things, and were given some help to be able to go! It was amazing! And crazy! And exhausting. That jet lag is no joke when it’s the other side of the world!
Leading up to the trip felt a bit stressful. Making sure we had the right airline situation, getting visas to get into the country, getting passports, trying to think through the scenarios of what we’d actually need because we were traveling light so we didn’t have to check bags. One of us got rejected on the visa end of things and so we hurried and reapplied. The approval came two days before we left. There’s just so much to plan and wait for. So much that can go wrong. Then making it through baggage checks — we were taking some food things to Kinsley so we were always having bags opened and checked! So when we were ALL finally getting on the plane with all our belongings and headed to Kinsley, we were super excited!
Of course, that journey was more than twenty hours long! We left at night and landed at night…but on different days! But it was actually the same day! Yeah, world travel! Kinda mind boggling!
We spent lots of time sitting, trying to be comfy enough to sleep, playing cards in the airports, and watching movies on the backs of airplane seats, that by the way are no more roomier when flying international than when flying domestic - at least in the economy section. First class would have been IT! But alas, we are the economy people!
I’m keeping you in suspense of the final arrival until the next blog where there are lots of pictures of some of our family togetherness we enjoyed on the other side of the world!
The trip, as you can imagine, was so worth all the stress, travel struggles, and the exhaustion. When it comes to family, we are pretty much willing to go through anything for them, aren’t we?
