An UnChristmas Thought
Instagram, Facebook, stores, streets, blogs. Everything is all about Christmas. (tis the season, right?!) I'm sure I'll be on the band wagon soon enough in my own cyberspaces, but part of me wants a little normal life today. I'm kinda wanting to think about something besides holly and jolly! If you're okay with that, by all means, read on!
I was recently driving Selah to an appointment. She was in her "I'm out of school early, giggly" mood (which is fun!), but still ultra serious about tackling her studies in those spare moments riding in the car (which isn't always fun!). I am always trying to loosen her up with my ridiculous antics (yeah...total dork here!), but also being careful to appreciate who she is at the core of her person! I often wrestle with how to teach my kids to do their best without becoming consumed with being the best? How can I guide my kids to be fully who God has created them to be, but help them discern when that line has been crossed?
There are never black and white answers to these things. We just keep praying our way through. The encouraging news is that I see my girl learning the balance of working hard and leaving room to breathe. I see her tip-toeing forward in faith, feeling her way closer to God and discovering who He has created her to be. She inspires me to find the same balance of working and breathing. Because what is life if we are only going with our head down, full speed ahead? There is nothing holly and jolly about that, now is there?!
If there's anything of value for you in this post it might be this: Don't take yourself too seriously and keep stumbling your way nearer to God so He can show you who He is and who He made you to be!
